HED Conference Opportunities

We are excited to announce some unique opportunities for higher education students and faculty at the 2025 Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA) Conference. These events provide a platform for showcasing your musical talents and teaching expertise to a statewide audience of music educators and peers.

Call for Performers: Faculty and Student Recitals

The AMEA Higher Education Division invites faculty and students from 2-year and 4-year institutions across Alabama to participate in two special recital sessions. The Faculty Showcase Recital will take place on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1:30 PM, followed by the Student Showcase Recital at 4:00 PM the same day. Performances may include solo or chamber works from any genre, with selections lasting between 5-10 minutes. This is a prime opportunity to highlight your musical achievements in a professional setting. Proposals for performances must be submitted by October 19, 2024. Accepted performers will be notified by November 15, 2024.

2024-2025 edTPA Lesson Planning Competition

This competition is designed for future music educators who are eager to demonstrate their lesson planning and teaching skills using the edTPA framework. Participants must be active Collegiate National Association for Music Education (C-NAfME) members enrolled in an Educator Preparation Program. The competition involves submitting selected components of your edTPA lesson plans, including context for learning, lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments. A panel of university music education specialists will review the submissions, and four finalists will be invited to present their lessons live at the 2025 AMEA conference. This is an excellent opportunity to gain recognition and valuable feedback from professionals in the field. The deadline for submission is November 1, 2024, with finalists notified by December 1, 2024.

AMEA RESEARCH POSTER SESSION CALL FOR RESEARCH POSTERS

The Alabama Music Educators Association, Higher Education Division invites research poster submissions from all levels of music scholars and practitioners. Submissions may include completed and in-progress research studies involving any aspect of music (education, therapy, history, psychology, performance, music in higher education, alternative music, etc.). Research-based on issues facing music educators, musicians, and music students in the Southeastern United States are especially welcome, though this is not a requirement.

Interested researchers should submit a detailed, anonymized abstract of the research project (1000-word limit) through the online submission website.

These opportunities are not only a chance to showcase your talents but also to engage with the wider music education community in Alabama. Be sure to take advantage of these offerings and contribute to the rich program at the 2025 AMEA conference.
