HED Conference Opportunities

We are excited to announce some unique opportunities for higher education students and faculty at the 2026 Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA) Conference. These events provide a platform for showcasing your musical talents and teaching expertise to a statewide audience of music educators and peers.


Call for Performers: Faculty and Student Showcase Recitals

The AMEA Higher Education Division invites faculty and students from 2-year and 4-year institutions across Alabama to apply to perform during the HED Faculty/Student Showcase during the 2026 AMEA Professional Development Conference. The Faculty/Student Showcase Recital will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 4:00 PM. Performances may include solo, or chamber works from any genre, with selections lasting between 5-10 minutes. This is a prime opportunity to highlight your musical achievements in a professional setting. Proposals for performances must be submitted by October 24, 2025.

Proposal Criteria: 

  1. The Alabama Music Educators Association, Higher Education Division invites proposals for the performance of solo or chamber ensemble works for inclusion on two special recital sessions being planned for the 2026 AMEA conference: the two recital sessions include a Higher Education Division Faculty and Student Showcase Recital on January 23, 2026 at 4:00 PM. 
  2. Faculty performers must teach at a 2-year or 4-year institution of higher learning in the state of Alabama. Student performers must be either graduate or undergraduate students who are enrolled at either a 2-year or 4-year institution of higher learning in the state of Alabama. 
  3. Performance proposals may include either published or self-published solo or chamber works.  Works may be from any genre or musical style. 
  4. Performance selections should be between 5-10 minutes in length. 
  5. Proposals for student performances need to be approved by the student’s applied instructor or chamber ensemble coach/director prior to submission, and must be submitted by the student’s applied instructor or chamber ensemble coach/director  using the following form. 
  6. To submit a proposal for either the Faculty Showcase recital, or for the Student Showcase recital, please complete and submit the following form by 11:59 p.m. CST on Sunday, October 24, 2025 for full consideration:
  7. Individual faculty performers for the Faculty Showcase recital, and student applied instructors and ensemble coaches/directors of students for the Student Showcase recital will be notified of acceptance and inclusion on the programs by email by November 15th, 2025. 

Conference Criteria (for accepted proposals): 

  1. If accepted, the performer must register for the 2026 AMEA conference.  In the case of multi-performer works, at least one performer of the group must be registered for the 2026 AMEA conference. 
  2. HED Recital performances for the 2026 AMEA conference will be presented live and in-person on Friday, January 23th at 4:00 PM.

AMEA RESEARCH POSTER SESSION CALL FOR RESEARCH POSTERS

The Alabama Music Educators Association, Higher Education Division invites research poster submissions from all levels of music scholars and practitioners. Submissions may include completed and in-progress research studies involving any aspect of music (education, therapy, history, psychology, performance, music in higher education, alternative music, etc.). Research-based on issues facing music educators, musicians, and music students in the Southeastern United States are especially welcome, though this is not a requirement.

Interested researchers should submit a detailed, anonymized abstract of the research project (1000-word limit) through the online submission website.
